Easy

Still taking it easy. The pain in my shoulder seems diminished. Greatly diminished. And now that the extreme heat is over — yesterday's high was only about 80ºF — it's much easier to relax. I'm still trying to limit my typing and mousing.

Here's the view out a downstairs window. The nice thing about the vineyard is that it stays emerald green even when most of the grass is parched to a golden brown by the hot sun. The ground is "superficially dry"  — meaning it absorbed a lot of water over the first half of the year, even though it seems powdery dry right now. There's a lot of water under the surface that the grapevines, with their deep roots, can tap into.

  1. And your view is so much better now that the power lines are gone, not that it was ever a bad view!

So glad you are improving health wise. According to my Dr, having chicken pox as a child does not make you any more or less likely to get shingles. I had the vaccination about five years ago and I've been on my soap box since then promoting it to everyone I know, guess you didn't hear me in France. ;)

  2. My doctor here said that you get shingles because you had chicken pox earlier in life. So who is right? I've read on web sites that a person who has shingles can transmit chicken pox to a person who has never had the disease, but that shingles itself is not contagious — a person who has already had chicken pox can't catch shingles from a person who has shingles. It's all very complicated. I'll ask my doctor when a see him in a couple of weeks if he thinks I should have the vaccination, or if it's too late.

    1. That's funny, Tim. But I've been taking mousing lessons from you-know-who... I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

  4. Glad you're feeling better. I'm sure it helps to feel comfortably cool instead of hot.

  6. What a frantastic view. It's great that France (or at least parts of it) is so good at removing above ground power lines. When we lived in Massachusetts before we moved to Maine, our city was known for the number of its power and phone lines. There was a Christmas postcard showing a massive number of power lines resembling the branches of a Christmas tree.

  8. That is what we were told when my mother in law had shingles. That it was from the chickenpox .. and children were not supposed to go around her either. I just know it is a terribly painful thing to go through :(
